The “Autobiographical Notes” of Empress Catherine II for a hundred years were shrouded in a veil of state secrets and became known in their entirety only in the 1907 edition of the Imperial Academy of Sciences. “Memoirs” of the Empress shed much light on the personality and activities of Catherine II, they contain rich material for the history of the Russian court, society and state in the 18th century. ”
