Officially, as the “Day of Knowledge”, September 1 was established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR No. 373-11 of June 15, 1984 “On the declaration of September 1 as a national holiday — the Day of Knowledge”, which supplemented the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR No. 3018-X “On holidays and memorable days” of October 1, 1980 with a new holiday.
