It’s certainly not a pastime solely the preserve of the younger generation, as an increasing number of adults are finding out. The therapeutic benefits of putting pen to paper to conjure up beautiful images is truly rewarding, and the great news is that you don’t need any artistic skill to get real enjoyment.
We’ve selected a range of images in a variety of styles – some simple: some more intricate – and arranged them into four themes: butterflies and birds, animals, flowers and trees, and patterns. So however much time you have, and no matter your level of concentration, there is something to enjoy.
We have had so much fun collating these pictures, and hope you will have hours of pleasure colouring them in with hues that you adore.
Make the most of your colouring book with these top tips and techniques.
Ou can use water-based pens, pencils, crayons and watercolour paints for best results Alcohol-based pens will have show through. If you do use them, place a layer of protective paper underneath the design There is a mirror image repeated on the back of each line drawing, so you can start again, if you go wrong. Also, if you do use alcohol- based pens, any show-through will be within the lines For something a bit different, larger areas can be collaged Some of the images have patterns included on them. You can choose to pick these out, or simply colour over the decorative effect
Try colouring some of the images in tonal shades of one colour Create textures by combining colouring mediums, such as crayons and pens, and pencils and watercolour paints Create your own patterns using dots, stripes and chevrons Double-ended pens are perfect for colouring these images as you’ll need a fine tip for some of the smaller details Try using highlighters for a neon-based design in fluorescent shades Try papercutting some areas of the design, and colour others. Cut out and mount onto coloured card.
