Annotation: Women’s chess movement, which began with rare few tournaments, every year acquired everything larger scope, became more and more massive. The class of play of Soviet chess players also steadily increased. The results of the international women’s tournaments of 1950, 1952 and 1955 are significant, where the Soviet chess school won a brilliant victory. Along with the factual material, the author placed in the book a series of games and endings that should introduce the reader body with the nature of creativity of Soviet chess players.

Annotation:  Vera Menchik entered the history of chess as the first world chess champion. She participated in many international competitions, met at the chessboard with world champions Alekhine, Lasker, Capablanca, Botvinnik, Euwe, as well as with grandmasters Keres, Flohr, Lilienthal, Reshevsky and many others. The author tried to collect in one book materials about the life and chess work of Vera Menchik, materials related to the name of the outstanding chess player, and conversations with people who knew her well. Chess players from various countries, who met the first world champion at the chessboard, kindly provided their small reminiscences for the book, placed on the first pages. Further in the book are a description of the life path of V. Menchik and a list of her speeches. This is followed by three main parts of the work on Vera Menchik. The first part contains information and chess games from pre-war men’s tournaments, in which V. Menchik participated. In them, the outstanding chess player especially clearly demonstrated her outstanding chess abilities. The second part tells about women’s competitions, including the first seven world championships, in which Menchik invariably emerged victorious. The last period of the life of Vera Menchik is described in the third part. At this time, Menchik competed in small English tournaments with the participation of masters. Several of the above games are given with commentary by grandmasters Alekhine, Botvinnik, Ragozin, master Grigoriev, as well as by Vera Menchik herself. Comments on the rest of the games were compiled by the author. Among the games placed there are those lost by Vera Menchik, but they are interesting and instructive in all stages of the struggle.
