The design features the Holy Face of Christ on a piece of cloth held by two angels.
The Holy Mandylion is one of the earliest known icons in Christian tradition.
According to Orthodox belief, it was created when Jesus pressed a cloth to His face,
leaving a miraculous imprint. This image was later sent to King Abgar of Edessa, who was healed upon receiving it.
The icon is considered a prototype for all later depictions of Christ’s face and holds a prominent place in Eastern Orthodox iconography. This embroidery design captures the dignity and spiritual power of the original icon.
